Acupuncture
Originating in China; Acupuncture is among the oldest healing systems in the world. Acupuncture is based on the movement of Qi (pronounced “Chee”); a life-sustaining energy, that circulates through meridians or channels that integrate every function, organ, system and region of the body.
Acupuncture restores your body’s balance & improves your health. Many people visit an acupuncturist only after mainstream therapies have not produced noticeable relief from symptoms associated with today’s most common ailments, including; asthma, allergies, muscle/joint pain, headaches, insomnia, anxiety, & stress.
Now more than ever people are looking for relief from these conditions that seem to leave them feeling stressed and out of balance.
Acupuncture can provide a safe, effective way to treat the whole person, while minimizing the risks commonly associated with more invasive therapies such as drugs or surgery.
Acupuncture involves inserting hair thin pins just below the skin at very specific points. These points are energetically important to the body and activate immune, nervous, & endocrine system responses. In the western view of the body, energy is distributed via the major systems, i.e. circulatory, nervous, endocrine, immune, respiratory, etc. Although they did not have the benefit of modern X-rays, PET scans, and diagnostic equipment, the Chinese mapped a very detailed and sophisticated picture of the interplay of these systems. In the Chinese medicine, these same systems are described as organ energies.
The method of communication between the brain, organs, and each individual cell occurs along the major energy pathways, or meridians, of acupuncture. An easy way to think of the meridian system is like a modern road map. The major meridians are like highways that can veer off to major streets, then side streets, town roads, and eventually to driveways that lead right up to one house. In the body that house is like each individual cell.
There is minimal risk of injury and virtually no side effects when administered properly. The needles are sterile, regulated by the FDA, and used only once.
For most patients, acupuncture is a painless, comforting, and restorative form of therapy. Acupuncture should never be painful, but the patient will have some sensation that is indicative of a therapeutic response.
Regardless of what condition a person is suffering from, whether it is from pain, insomnia, stress, asthma, etc. there is always some form of imbalance that is not allowing the energy to flow properly. The severity of the disease is often determined by how long the imbalance has been present and how complex the imbalance is. The beauty of acupuncture is that, in the hands of a skilled practitioner, these imbalances can be corrected, bringing significant relief.
